Johnson Earns Five-Year NIH Grant



Constance Johnson, PhD, MS, RN, Associate Professor and Director of the Nursing Informatics Specialty at the Duke School of Nursing, and Allison Vorderstrasse, DNSc, APRN, CNE, Assistant Professor at the Duke School of Nursing, were awarded a five-year RO1 grant from the National Institutes of Health, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Titled Diabetes Self-Management & Support LIVE (Learning in Virtual Environments), the study is a randomized controlled trial to determine whether the effects of participation in a virtual environment that incorporates real-time diabetes self-management training and support will be associated with positive changes in health behaviors such as diet, physical activity, and metabolic outcomes. This work follows a successful pilot study funded by the National Library of Medicine.
