The Duke Center for Health Informatics participated in the 2013 Health Informatics Career and Internship Fair in Charlotte, NC on October 11. The fair was hosted by the Health Informatics Professional Science Master’s program at UNC-Charlotte. Other collaborators included The Carolina Health Informatics Program at UNC-Chapel Hill, the School of Library and Information Sciences at NC Central University, and the Department of Health Services and Information Management at East Carolina University.
Sixteen industry sponsors were on hand to discuss job openings and opportunities in informatics with over 200 attendees. There were also two panel discussions. One, “Transitioning into Health Informatics,” was moderated by Javed Mostafa, PhD, Professor of the Carolina Health Informatics Program, UNC-Chapel Hill. The panel consisted of Vivian West, PhD, MBA, RN, Associate Director, Operations, Duke Center for Health Informatics; Joshua Hertel, Program Director of Health Informatics, Professional Science Master’s Program at UNC-Charlotte; and Susie Harris, PhD, MBA, Associate Professor and Director, MS in Health Informatics and Information Management Program, East Carolina University.
A second panel, “Careers in Health Informatics,” was moderated by Mirsad Hadzikadic, PhD, Faculty Director, UNC-Charlotte Health Informatics Program. Participants included Allen Naidoo, Vice President, Carolinas Healthcare System; Jason Harwell, Director of Healthcare Informatics, Biz Technology Solutions; Paul Sinclair, Senior Vice President of Professional Services, Allscripts; and Sean Cassidy, General Manager of ITS, Emerging Business Unit, Premier, Inc.
