Congratulations to MSN students Kym Skaggs (left) and Emily Flahaven (right) on successfully passing HIMSS’ new health IT certification exam and obtaining the credential CAHIMS, or Certified Associate in Health Information Management Systems. Offered for the first time to professionals during HIMSS 2013, those with five or fewer years of health IT experience can now become certified as CAHIMS, which is a career pathway to CPHIMS (Certified Professional) certification. The National Science Foundation funded work on this new certification program, which is designed for clinicians interested in health IT, non-IT professionals, and students enrolled in academic health care informatics programs. Skaggs and Flahaven stated their master’s program at Duke trained them well to sit for and pass the exam. They will graduate in the summer of 2013.
