Health information exchange holds the promise to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance care quality. It is critical for achieving interoperable health information and supporting the current transformation of the healthcare systems. However, numerous challenges exists and HIE initiatives cannot always accomplish their intended goals. This presentation describes the goals of HIE, explain the importance of HIE evaluation, and demonstrate how to evaluate HIE outcomes by using a real-world example.
Yajiong Xue is a Professor at East Carolina University. She received her PhD in information technology and innovation from Auburn University. Her research has appeared in MISQ, ISR, JMIS, JAIS, ISJ, JSIS, and Communications of the ACM, Decision Support Systems, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Medical Informatics, and others. Her research interests include IT governance, strategic management of information technology, and healthcare information systems.
Huigang Liang is a Professor of MIS and Teer Endowed Chair in Research at College of Business, East Carolina University. His research focuses on IT issues at both individual and organizational levels in a variety of contexts including healthcare informatics, IT security, IT usage, and IT strategy. His work has appeared in MIS Quarterly, Information Systems, Journal of MIS, Journal of AIS, Communications of the ACM, Decision Support Systems, Information Systems Journal, International Journal of Medical Informatics, and Journal of Strategic Information Systems, among others. He is currently serving on the editorial board of MIS Quarterly, Journal of AIS, and Information & Management. He received his PhD in Healthcare Information Systems from Auburn University.
