Dr. Ed Hammond, Director of the Duke Center for Health Informatics, served as a panelist for the NCHICA Thought Leader Forum on Analytics and Informatics. The forum, held February 19, 2013 at RTI International in Research Triangle Park, NC, featured Dr. Hammond, along with Eric Brinsfield, the Director of Health and Life Sciences at SAS Research and Development, and Brent Lamm, the Director of Analytics for UNC-Chapel Hill Health Care and Associate Director of Biomedical Analytics at the NC TraCS Institute, UNC-Chapel Hill.
Panelists addressed a wide range of topics surrounding analytics and informatics, including best applications for analytics, clinical decision support and the changes to clinicians’ roles, the issues related to mobile health applications, and preservation of patient privacy within the social networking realm. Discussions also addressed meaningful use and the disparity between the use of informatics and the wide availability of new technology.
